Drawing conversion between pro/e and common cad/cam software

[Abstract] this paper discusses the ways of drawing conversion between pro/engineer and Mastercam, AutoCAD, UG, and expounds the feasibility and implementation process of drawing conversion

[Key words] pro/engineer cad/cam software pattern mutual conversion

1 introduction

pro/engineer, AutoCAD, Mastercam, Unigraphics (UG for short) are cad/cam software widely used in mechanical manufacturing industry at home and abroad. It is of great benefit for engineers and technicians to master the mutual conversion methods of these four software drawings with corresponding licenses to improve the efficiency of design and programming

pro/engineer is a set of cad/cam software with excellent three-dimensional modeling function, powerful parametric design and unified database management, while AutoCAD has perfect two-dimensional engineering drawing design function. Therefore, combined with the characteristics of pro/engineer, it is a feasible and effective method to do some simple changes in the three-dimensional parameters of the product, digital design of steps, and use the powerful two-dimensional drawing function of AutoCAD to process the drawing and save the scheme. For another example, Mastercam is widely used in small and medium-sized mold manufacturing enterprises, but its CAD function is relatively weak, and it is difficult to model complex surfaces and solids. Therefore, the parametric entity design of products can be carried out in combination with the characteristics of pro/engineer, and then imported into MasterCAM for NC programming

2 feasibility of drawing conversion

iges (Initial Graphics Exchange Specification) and DXF (drawing exchange file) drawing exchange file formats are file formats supported by pro/engineer, Mastercam, UG and AutoCAD. They are sequential files with special formats, which can be carried out with various software or read and written in high-level languages. IGES and DXF files are easy to operate and bidirectional in the four design software, which makes it possible to convert the drawings between pro/engineer and Mastercam, AutoCAD and UG

3 realization of pattern conversion

3.1 pro/engine at present, the conductivity of any copper alloy has not been found in China to exceed that of copper alloy functional new material Er produced by Guoliang copper and MasterCAM 3D pattern conversion

3.1.1 pro/engineer pattern import MasterCAM implementation process

(1) open the document to be output in pro/engineer

(2) click "file → export → model → IGES", enter the file name, and then click "√" to pop up the "export IGES" dialog box (as shown in Figure 1)

Figure 1 export IGES format file dialog box

(3) set the corresponding parameters in the export IGES dialog box. The default item "surfaces" is to export the 3D model of pro/engineer as surface data; The "wireframe edges" item only outputs the boundary line of the 3D model; The "datum curves and points" item only outputs the data of points and curves on the 3D model. Using the "quilts" button to select a surface on the 3D model, you can only output IGES data containing the surface. After setting the corresponding parameters, click "OK" to complete the file conversion

(4) open Mastercam, click "file → converters → IGES → read file", open the IGES file generated by the previous conversion, and the system pops up the "IGES read parameters" dialog box (as shown in Figure 2). After using the default value or setting the corresponding parameters in the dialog box, click "OK" to complete the document import

3.1.2 MasterCAM drawing import pro/engineer implementation process

(1) open the document to be output in MasterCAM

(2) click "file → converters → IGES → write file", enter the file name, specify the file storage directory, and complete the conversion of IGES format files

(3) open pro/engineer, click "file → import → create new model", select the IGES file generated by the previous conversion, click "OK", and the "import new model" dialog box pops up (Figure 3)

Figure 3 input new model dialog box

(4) after using the default value or setting the corresponding parameters in the dialog box, click "OK → close" to complete the document import

3.2 pro/engineer and AutoCAD engineering drawing conversion

3.2.1 pro/engineer drawing import into AutoCAD implementation process

(1) open the engineering drawing document to be output in pro/engineer

(2) click "file → export → model → DXF" or "DWG", enter the file name, and then click "√" to complete the file conversion

(3) open AutoCAD2000 (Simplified Chinese version), click "file → open", select DXF or DW generated in the previous step, analyze the applicability g file of asphalt pavement on geothermal regeneration technology, and click "open", that is, the engineering drawing document import is completed

3.2.2 AutoCAD drawing import pro/engineer implementation process

(1) in AutoCAD, save the engineering drawing document to be output as DXF format document

(2) create a new drawing document in pro/engineer, then click "file → import → append to model" in the drawing, select the DXF format document generated in the previous step, and click "OK → yes" to complete the import of the drawing document

3.3 pro/engineer and UG 3D drawing conversion

3.3.1 pro/engineer drawing import UG implementation process

(1) complete the conversion of IGES format files in pro/engineer (the conversion method has been described in detail above)

(2) open UG software, click "file → import" to complete the conversion of drawings

it is worth noting that when IGES files are converted to UG software on the NT platform, errors sometimes occur. There are many reasons for the errors, and the wrong IGES file format is the most common reason for the errors. You can open IGES files with Notepad to determine. The most fundamental reason for this error is that the IGES file is in UNIX file format, which is different from MS-DOS text file format. Therefore, IGES files in UNIX format must first be converted into MS-DOS text file format, and then imported into UG software. There are three conversion methods: one is to convert the IGES file in UNIX format into MS-DOS text file format by using the corresponding commands of UNIX in UNIX environment; The second is to open IGES file with write command in Windows2000 environment and save it as MS-DOS text file format; The last method is to use UltraEdit to open IGES file in Windows NT4.0 environment and save it as MS-DOS text file format

3.3.2 UG drawing import pro/engineer implementation process

(1) UG 3D drawing can be converted into IGES format file, and this conversion process can be operated with "file → export" inside UG; You can also select "start → program → Unigraphics nx → translators" externally, but if you are converting externally, you cannot select the path of the output file, because when the external conversion program is running, the path of the output file is determined according to the variable homedrive e/homepath on September 14th, 2015. If you want the output path to be "h:ugu parts", you must define homedrive as "H:", and HomePath as "ugu parts". If the operator does not change these two variables, the output file is stored in the system default path. To change the settings of these two variables, select "my computer - properties - Advanced - environment variables". In the "environment variables" dialog box, select "new" to set or select to modify. When the conversion is performed again (i.e. the conversion program is selected again), the new variable takes effect

(2) the method of importing IGES documents into pro/engineer software has been described in detail above

practice has proved that it is of great benefit to improve the efficiency of design and programming by mastering the mutual transformation of drawings between pro/engineer and Mastercam, AutoCAD and UG with corresponding licenses. (end)
